On February 28, 2023, the agreement that made CAPPI possible was signed: a pioneering center in the comprehensive care of children with palliative needs, thanks to the commitment of the Amancio Ortega Foundation .
An agreement that has changed the course of paediatric palliative care
The signing of the agreement has been a health and social milestone in Spain. The Amancio Ortega Foundation and the Porque Viven Foundation, through the signing of the agreement, guaranteed the Full financing of the Comprehensive Pediatric Palliative Care Center (CAPPI) .
Thanks to this agreement, the Porque Viven Foundation will respond to an urgent and real need: to attend to the children with incurable or serious illnesses and their families , from a human, dignified and close approach.
The project, in addition to offering specialized assistance, seeks to to enlarge the lives of those who cannot be cured .
CAPPI: an international benchmark for child care
Located at Calle Aquitania number 2, in Madrid, the CAPPI will be a unique centre in Spain and Europe.
It will have:
Assistance and accompaniment spaces
- 56 medium and long-stay beds for pediatric patients.
- Day centre with 24 places , where children will receive specialized care without the need for hospitalization.
- Integration Classroom to guarantee educational continuity.
- End of Life Apartments , which will allow families to experience this process in an intimate, dignified and welcoming environment.
- Pediatric Rehabilitation Center , with physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and multisensory stimulation.
A sustainable and technologically advanced model
The design of CAPPI integrates architectural innovation, universal accessibility, environmental sustainability and state-of-the-art health technology. In addition, the 5,000 m² of gardens They will be conceived as an active part of care: spaces for play, rest and socialization.
The Amancio Ortega Foundation: an essential boost for CAPPI
The involvement of the Amancio Ortega Foundation (FAO) In this project he goes beyond the economic. Their commitment to public health and equity has been instrumental in moving CAPPI from paper to reality.
FAO has already been recognized for previous initiatives, such as the donation of oncology equipment to public hospitals, and now adds to its trajectory the promotion of pediatric palliative care, a need still pending in the Spanish health system.
CAPPI will also train professionals: sowing the future
In addition to its care work, the center will be a space for the development of knowledge and learning. One of its key objectives will be Forming High-Performance Teams in Paediatric Palliative Care , so that this care can be offered as a Proximity service throughout the country .
Training to transform the care model
- Specialised programmes for health workers and psychosocial professionals.

A support network beyond the hospital
Since its inception, the Porque Viven Foundation has defended that care should focus on the person and their environment. For this reason, in addition to CAPPI, it continues to develop initiatives such as:

- Emotional and spiritual support through your Psychosocial Care Team (EAPS) .
- Advocacy for a National Paediatric Palliative Care Act that guarantees the right to be cared for.
